A Hidden Gem in Dorsoduro
Nestled in Venice’s vibrant Campo Santa Margherita in the Dorsoduro district, Hotel Antico Capon has for many years served travellers looking for simplicity, local warmth, and proximity to the beating heart of Venetian life.
Modest Beginnings, Family Roots
Originally a small guesthouse operated by a Venetian family, Antico Capon was built in one of Venice’s historic stucco and brick buildings. Like many structures in the sestiere of Dorsoduro, its origins pre-date large-scale tourism — it grew organically with the city, hosting scholars, artists, and travellers.
Preserving Authentic Venice
Over time, as Venice became more popular and hotels more upscale, Antico Capon stayed true to its character: modest rooms, rustic decor, and that genuine Venetian atmosphere. Guests still find traditional terrazzo floors, antique furnishings, uneven floors, and wooden beams that speak of history.
A Place Defined by Place
- Its location on Campo Santa Margherita puts it in the middle of daily Venetian life — cafés, markets, student hangouts — yet with easy walking distance to attractions like the Frari Basilica and the Accademia.
- Proximity to transport hubs — including the Santa Lucia train station and vaporetti stops — makes it a practical base from which to explore Venice beyond the usual tourist paths.
What It Means Today
Today, Hotel Antico Capon continues its mission of offering affordable, authentic, and welcoming stays. We’re small, family-oriented, perhaps not lavish — but what we might lack in luxury we make up for in character, intimacy, and the chance to feel a little more like a local.
